Photographs - From the Dinnages Transport Publishing, Picture Library
Some years ago after closing our retail premises, we wrote to our regular customers keeping them informed of new stock across the board, although had difficulty offering newly printed photographs, as lists were just that, long lists of text, not being able to show the images themselves. However as of Spring 2009 we had revived these so called newsletters, although only catering for the photograph library. This Newsletter format, folded to A5, are specifically aimed at our customers who have little or no internet access or could not meet us at stand (such as ex-Pats in Spain and Canada) are an ideal way to keep a regular and managable source of prints on offer throughout the year, not tied to the few Summer and local events. So far few photographs have been made available for online purchase, takes rather more time than we have spare, so we would encourage all of those interested in our Picture Library to subscribe to the postal Newsletter for a regular supply and select some from our regular offerings. Our offerings are based only on Brighton, Hove & District, Southdown Motor Services and Brighton Corporation Transport, with additional Newsletter Extras to be published on other themes as and when time and events dictate, such as club presentations. Having our photo newsletter pages set at A5, this being the preferred format and size of most club booklets and club Journals, such as now used by the 'Sussex Transport Interest Group'. Within this format we are able to provide a page of 28 thumbnails of tradional B&W images offered for ordering on the month ahead, with a few colour selections since the January 2010 issue too. The latter selections take longer for us to catalogue and more care is needed on early colour negatives. Those who would like a printed copy with all images shown, just send us a (DL/A5) stamped SAE. Postal rates through the Newsletter for these photographs on offer are lower than the online store as a payment is by cheque/BACS only and just covers an average postal cost not including the cost of a boarded envelope. Generally our average postage cost across the month was about 71p leaving just 4p towards the envelope! Since April 2010 the rates went up again, however we have kept our 75p Postage fee whatever the amount ordered. Online sales and the postal Picture Library Newsletter orders cannot be combined, as they cater for different payment method. Newsletter subscribers have first offers on newly printed photographs which should not be available anywhere else. Once the Newsletter following a year later is issued those few remaining prints would be made available at our events stand on a first come basis. To explain that better, April/May 2009 remaining prints were made available at our stand on the release of the June 2010 newsletter being over a year old at 13th June, that was the Brighton & Hove 75th event, where we released the first colour views from Ernest (Ernie) Charman. Our 'used' collection of photographs covering all of the UK is somewhat unique, having since 1993 purchased 'spares' from many enthusiasts around the country when having clear outs of thier collections, of duplicates or just having a downsize. This vast stock of currently over 70,000 UK wide views will in time diminish as we will only purchase 'local' views from trusted sources, with a rough guide to a cut off of the mid 1980's as there are many stallholders and dealers in post 1980 material, which in time will give us more space to dedicate to our own material, not just material based around the Brighton area. You may find a few selections of genuine original prints will at times be offered through our auction sales. The 'used' views cover trams, trolleybuses, motor buses, some railway, and cover many periods on B&W views from 1938 to colour from the 1970's to the present day.
To return to this index page, exit the Newsletter page/s previously selected by the X in the top right hand corner! These online newsletters are for archive reference. Should you wish to make an order, please send your order using the current form by post NOT email.Note that the online layout as offered via PDF files does not exactly match the original printed pagesThe images other than those seen in thumbnail sheets will be poor quality than seen in Newsletter, this deters theft of those images. Orders for prints off any of these newsletters will require an application for a current order form. Requests for images for previous issues will be supplied by customers only using the most recent order form. Priority of available prints given to subscribers, followed by late orders. Once an issue is past a year old, any remaining prints from that issue will be added to our events or stall boxes.
